About this book
Bird Stories by Edith M. Patch, illustrated by Robert J. Sim, is dedicated to Junior Audubon classes and to boys and girls who are friendly to birds. One story is set on a cold winter day after an ice storm, with a black-capped bird named Chick looking for breakfast. His feet are bare and he is very hungry. A deep booming sound fills the air when the crust of the snow breaks, and a farmer boy comes into view.
Another story follows a young crow that is fed by a brown-eyed boy and a blue-eyed girl. It hides worms in cracks and under chips, and begs with a teasing "Kah" even when it has been fed. The acknowledgment mentions eave-swallows and screech owls, and source notes follow titles such as The Flying Clown, the nighthawk, and The Lost Dove, the passenger pigeon.
