About this book
Boswell the Biographer is by George Mallory and comes with a portrait by George Dance, R.A. One chapter says that nothing in Boswell's life became him so well as his second important publication, The Journal of a Tour to the Hebrides, and gives the date as 1785, not many months after Johnson's death. The author says that Boswell was very far from being idle, that he had great energy, and that he often applied himself to something which interested him with fervent industry.
A quoted passage in the first person gives the hours of study: the law class from nine to ten, study at home from ten to eleven, and a College upon Roman Antiquities from one to two. The text says Paoli is told: with a mind naturally inclined to melancholy and a deep desire of inquiry, I have intensely applied myself to metaphysical researches.
