About this book
Business English: A Practice Book is by Rose Buhlig. A preface says the author and the writer of the preface have never met, calls the name Business English an anomaly because English is English whatever it is used to express, and says the term here means effective communication, both oral and written.
The exercises are numbered. Exercise 26 asks the reader to divide a list of words, such as accountant, manufacturer and stenography, into syllables. Exercise 27, headed Accent, asks for syllables, accent marks and pronunciation, and gives words whose meaning changes with the accent. Another exercise offers numbered sentences to work with, such as I think you cook fully as well if not better than your sister. A further passage discusses bond investments, borrowing municipalities and a feeling of confidence at the start of the new year.
