About this book
Caesar Rodney's Ride, by Henry Fisk Carlton, is a play that, its opening note says, has actually been produced on the radio. A note headed How to Be a Good Radio Actor says the people who read the parts stood close together around the microphone, each one reading from a copy of the play in his hand. The cast list names Benjamin Franklin, John Hancock, Caesar Rodney and Prudence Rodney, among others.
The announcer says that on July 1, 1776, the Continental Congress of the American Colonies faced one of the most important crises this country has ever passed through. Prudence asks Caesar whether he has gone crazy over his riding boots, and Rodney says he has got to be in Philadelphia before nine o'clock tomorrow morning. McKeen says it is Rodney and the postrider who are coming, and all the voices cheer, "Here comes Rodney of Delaware!"
