About this book
Carry On is by Coningsby Dawson, with the subtitle Letters in War-Time. The book names Lieutenant Coningsby Dawson of the Canadian Field Artillery and carries "AN INTRODUCTION AND NOTES BY HIS FATHER, W.J. DAWSON". Verse headed "WHEN THE WAR'S AT AN END" begins "At length when the war's at an end And we're just ourselves, you and I".
The text says "sudden and unheralded, there broke on this quiet life of intellectual devotion the great storm of 1914". A speaker says that the way artillery is run to-day an artillery lieutenant is more in the trenches than an infantryman, and that the only thing he doesn't do is to go over the parapet in an attack. A letter closes "Yours ever, Con", and the next, numbered XLVII and dated February 4th, 1917, opens "Dear Mr. B."
