About this book
Out To Win, subtitled The Story of America in France, is by Coningsby Dawson. The preface says it is not written for the conscious fool, but for his self-deceived brother who considers himself a very wise person.
A plea for a firmer Anglo-American friendship is addressed to the civilian populations of both countries. The writer recalls sailing back from New York last October with a company of American officers. The American Relief Clearing House in Paris is stated to have received 291 shipments and distributed eight million francs up to January, 1917. Night is the troublesome time, the text says: the children hide under their beds with terror, and the nurses have to go the rounds continually.
