About this book

Brenda Ruttledge, a nurse, has been offered a job in Boston when her matron asks her to bring a baby along on the voyage. Afraid to refuse, and tempted by the money, she agrees.

At the pier in Dun Laoghaire, a woman hands over the child with a bag holding the baby's things and papers.
