Christmas with Grandma Elsie is by Martha Finley. Chapter I opens about the middle of November, after a long rain storm ending in sleet and snow, with the sun shining brightly on a landscape sheeted with ice. At Ion, Mrs. Elsie Travilla stands at the window of her dressing-room gazing with delighted eyes upon the lovely scene.
A character named Evelyn Leland asks the girls whether it would not be nice to give a good time to the poor people about them. Lora Howard says it would be delightful to get them all together somewhere and surprise them with a Christmas tree loaded with nice things. One speaker says she is tired but would sit up and work an hour or two longer if it wouldn't be disobedience to papa.
