About this book
Cotton Weaving and Designing is a book by John T. Taylor. The text says the force exerted by the slay varies as the square of its velocity. The text supposes it is required to compare the force exerted by the slay in beating up in two looms, one with a 12-inch crank-arm and 3-inch crank and the other with an 11-inch arm and 4-inch crank.
One stripe design is described as composed of twenty ends of five-shaft satin and sixteen ends plain, and the least number of shafts on which this could be woven is seven. The text says the term pegging refers to the dobby loom, and that if the design is woven on a tappet loom, tappet plan would be a more correct term to use. The text says that by causing weighted levers to bear upon the beam-ends during winding, a hard and compact beam is made.
