About this book

Cutting and Draping by John W. Stephenson is a practical handbook for upholsterers and decorators, with over two hundred and fifty diagrams and illustrations. The table of contents lists, among others, French festoon drapery, irregular festoon drapery, flat valances or lambrequins and pleated valances or lambrequins. The text says some materials require an infinite amount of coaxing, particularly for scarf draperies, but patience and perseverance will usually conquer the most contrary fabric.

The text defines a reverse: the fringe instead of being all sewn on one side of the goods is for some distance transferred to the other side of the goods and sewn to the opposite edge. The text says the canopy is made on a frame shaped like Figure 117, suspended by brass chains or wire from the ceiling or wall.
