About this book
Day Symbols of the Maya Year is by Cyrus Thomas, and its contents list sections headed The first day, The second day and The third day. The text says it is probable that Drs Schellhas and Seler were led to their conclusion by the fact that the symbol bears a close resemblance to the conventional form of the female breast, which in Maya is im. The author cites Brasseur, who under akab-maax speaks of a phantom or hobgoblin of this name, which he says signifies the great monkey of the night.
The text says och is the Maya name for the male fox, and oquil or ocquil is the name in Tzental and Tzotzil for wolf. A list of subjects with page references includes Ixchel, a Maya deity, and a Kan symbol discussed.
