About this book
The vocabulary records words for colours, clothing, household objects and actions, including a coat, a cradle, a cup and cooking on hot stones. The introductory discussion distinguishes three classes of cardinals in Clallam and Lummi, called simple, personal and of valuation, while warning that these terms are not strictly accurate. The discussion says that the distinctions governing the use of those classes have never been fully ascertained by the writer.
The local-name entries identify Klik-a-té-nus as the small prairie at the military station, Fort Bellingham. The What-com entry identifies the outlet of the lake and explains that the name refers to the noise of its waters.
