Descriptions of New Hylid Frogs From Mexico and Central America is by William Edward Duellman. The opening says biological exploration of México and Central America has revealed the presence of a diverse fauna, elements of which have undergone speciation in separate areas within the relatively small region.
The acknowledgements thank Linda Trueb for help in obtaining specimens and data and say she accompanied the author throughout México and Central America. A description headed Hyla siopela new species gives its holotype as an adult male, KU 100981, from a small stream on the west slope of Cofre de Perote, Veracruz. The text says the specific name pellita is Latin, meaning covered with skin, and is used in reference to the complete concealment of the tympanum beneath the skin.
