About this book
The editorial discussion says John Manningham wrote the diary while a student in the Middle Temple, covering 1602 down to April in 1603. Some few entries are occasionally out of chronological order, attributed either to a mistake by the binder or to irregularity on the diarist's part. The editorial account says some such irregularity clearly arose from the diarist's habit of writing wherever the book happened to have vacant space.
A diary entry records a recapitulation of previously delivered teaching before the delivery of doctrines from the text. The account describes catechising as apparently a newly begun practice, since the questions were still introductory. The editorial family history records the second Richard Manningham selling Bradbourne to Mr. Justice Twysden in 1656.
