About this book
Extracts from the Diary of William Bray gives extracts from the diary of William Bray, with a short memoir. The memoir says Mr. Bray was born at Shere, on the 15th of November, 1736, the youngest of the three sons who survived their father Edward Bray, Esq. The memoir says Mr. Bray succeeded to the possession of the Manors of Shere and Gumshall in 1803. A note says the extracts are printed for the gratification of Mr. Bray’s descendants.
An entry has the diarist go with Mr. Boughton and Shotter to Mr. Shrubb’s at Shalford to spend the evening, and adds that they played at loo and came home a little after 11. Another entry reads: went to Drury Lane house, ‘Tancred and Sigismunda,’ with Garrick as Tancred and Mrs. Cibber as Sigismunda. An entry says that at the Robin Hood Society the question was whether the increase of unmarried people was owing to the men’s greater bashfulness, or women’s greater coyness, than formerly.
