About this book
Dæmonologia Sacra, or A Treatise of Satan's Temptations, is a fine old quarto by Dr Gilpin. The treatise sets out from the words Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour. A chapter summary lists the introduction to the text, from a consideration of the desperate ruin of the souls of men.
The text asks Whether Satan can do miracles, and says that God alone can work miracles, a miracle being a real act, done visibly, and above the power of nature. The text adds that, though Satan cannot do things miraculous, he can do things wonderful and amazing. The text records how often the writer has heard Christians complaining thus: We cannot be in a state of grace. The contents list the fifth direction, of prayer, and of the seriousness required of those that expect the advantage of prayer.
