About this book
The Parables of Our Lord is concerned with the particular department of Scripture exegesis with which we are here engaged, the Parables of the Lord. The text says that, in our day as well as when the parables were first spoken, it is to his own disciples that their true meaning is made known.
The text says that to possess in some measure an eye for parallels is a most desirable qualification for one who proposes to help his neighbours in the study of the parables. The text tells of an elder in a rural district of Scotland who was leading the devotions of a district prayer-meeting and suddenly ceased to speak, and says the worshippers approached and found him dead. The text calls one of the many applications of a parable one of the most interesting and instructive: that every man has within himself the elements of all the four kinds of ground.
