About this book

Doctor Luke of the Labrador is credited to Norman Duncan. A note addressed to the reader says the gentler virtues flourish in the hearts of the folk. In one scene Skipper Tommy gently takes the lobe of the narrator's ear between his thick, hard thumb and forefinger, and says "Don’t you go thinkin’ you could make better worlds than the Lard."

In the narrator's words, the doctor took the narrator walking on the bald old Watchman, and there shamed the narrator for mistrusting him. The text says the master of the Jessie Dodd was sent to St. Johns by the last mail-boat of that season. The text says the last of the doctor’s small patrimony repaired the damage done to the business by the wreck of the Trap and Seine.
