About this book

This collection of five stories by Constance Fenimore Woolson was published in New York in 1896 with illustrations. The contents list Dorothy, A Transplanted Boy, A Florentine Experiment, A Waitress and At the Chateau of Corinne. One passage sets a Saturday gathering at a villa, where Nora Sebright, the first of the seven Misses Sebright, makes tea at a samovar that Mrs. Tracy bought in Russia, Raffaello carries sandwiches, and Waddy hopes Dorothy will come for a cup of tea.

Another passage follows Miss Stowe and a man named Trafford in Florence in May, visiting the Academy, the Pitti and the cloister of San Marco and talking about creed and the next world. A further scene has Ford saying he is no longer a rival of Mr. Percival and that his condition was not met, before horses are brought out into the sunshine.
