In one scene Esther is asked "And how did it suit you, Esther" and answers "I am charmed", adding "Only it certainly does come just a little near being an opera-house".

In another scene Esther's father whispers "Laugh, Esther, when you're in trouble! Say something droll! then you're safe" and says "I saw the whole regiment laugh under fire at Gettysburg". The Professor privately orders a sleigh and packs "his uncle and aunt into it together with Catherine and Wharton".
