About this book
The Captain's Toll-Gate is by Frank R. Stockton, with a memorial sketch by Mrs. Stockton. The contents name, among others, the chapters Olive, Maria Port and Mrs. Easterfield.
The sketch says Mr. Stockton set himself to writing The Dusantes when an author of distinction wrote to him that if he did not write something about the Dusantes, and what they said when they found the board money in the ginger jar, he would do it himself. A caption names Claymont as Mr. Stockton's home near Charles Town, West Virginia. Olive tells Mrs. Easterfield that she and Mr. Hemphill are going boating. The text says that more women came into the house, but, worse than that, the others stayed.
