About this book
Eminent Doctors: Their Lives and Their Work is Vol. 2 of 2, by G. T. Bettany. A chapter is headed Sir William Jenner, Budd, Murchison, and Typhoid Fever. The chapter says no man takes higher rank in this department of investigation than Sir William Jenner, who was born at Chatham, January 30, 1815, and educated at University College, London.
Murchison was invited to join a staff as full physician and joint-lecturer on medicine, and the Lancet is quoted as saying his teaching was a reflex of his singular lucidity of thought and expression. Murchison is said to have had very wide knowledge in botany, zoology, chemistry, and geology, and fly-fishing was his favourite recreation. An index entry says that R. J. Graves, 1795-1853, studies at Dublin, London, and Edinburgh.
