About this book
The book is titled Expositor's Bible, with the subtitle The Gospel of Matthew. The text says Dr. Edersheim has made a special study of this subject and quotes his authorities for each separate statement. The text says that if things of that kind represented the dignity of the people of Jerusalem, we need not ask why they were troubled when they heard that to them had been born in Bethlehem a Saviour who was Christ the Lord.
The text says Christ is looking at Peter, and speaking to Peter, but recognises another, whom He names and whom in the first place He addresses: "Get thee behind Me, Satan." The text says that 22nd Psalm, which was certainly in His mind, must have suggested thoughts of hope and strength. The text says that from the sixth hour to the ninth the darkness lasted, and at the ninth hour Jesus yielded up the ghost. The text says the shout is mentioned by St. Matthew, and the words are learned from St. John: "It is finished."
