About this book
Fairy Tales from the German Forests lists, among others, "THE ENGINEER AND THE DWARFS," "KÄTHCHEN AND THE KOBOLD," "THE DRAGON'S TAIL," "THE EASTER HARE" and "THE NIXY LAKE." The dwarfs "set up the tree on a clear part of the path," and the text calls it "this loveliest of Christmas trees." A dwarf says to Hansi "You live at No 7, and you are seven years old" and "Seven times seven is forty-nine and is the square of seven."
The children greet "Mrs Easter Hare" politely and say "we have come to help you in the household, and to stay with you till we are grown up." The children "learnt from father Easter Hare how to paint the eggs smoothly." The text has Trudel speak "in her sleep" the words "Gustel, bring in the shark, please; mother can't eat the thimble," and asks "wasn't that a funny thing for a little girl to say in her sleep."
