About this book
The Fairy Godmothers and Other Tales is by Mrs. Alfred Gatty. A dedication to the writer's children says the tales are most affectionately dedicated, were written in hours of sickness, and are intended to be read by the healthy and joyous young. The contents list names The Fairy Godmothers and Joachim the Mimic, among other titles.
A character named Euphrosyne says that Fairy gifts form the somewhat unnecessary second course, the sweets, the bonbons, the luscious luxuries of the repast. A passage names Joachim as a son who loved his mother dearly, and has the mother tell him he has a sad lesson to learn, but a necessary and a wholesome one.
