About this book
Farmhouse Plans is Farmers' Bulletin No. 1738. The bulletin says its plans were developed in connection with the Farm Housing Survey made in the spring of 1934 and were selected from more than 100 prepared under the cooperation of the following agencies and persons. The bulletin's principal purpose is to supply plans for low-cost farm dwellings designed to meet the requirements of the farm operator and his family.
The text says that a well-built farmhouse should last for 60 years or more. The contents list names, among others, Farmhouse requirements, Size, and Comfort and convenience. A plan description says that on the screened back porch, which is equipped with laundry trays and closet, men coming from the fields may hang their outside work garments and, except in cold weather, wash before entering the house. The text says Plan 6507 is intended for snowy sections, and the first-floor is purposely raised above the winter snow level.
