The preface says the book is intended to deal with houses in a housekeeping spirit.

The text says that evidently a house in which one-fifth of the floor space is given up to halls is more expensive than one which contains a smaller proportion of such space. The text says a building, as here planned, cost $2,600, without the appurtenances mentioned in schedule “B”. A plan headed No. 30 says that plans with bedrooms on the first floor are frequently wanted, and that this requirement makes an ugly problem.
