About this book
Fiue Hundred Pointes of Good Husbandrie is by Thomas Tusser, in the edition of 1580 collated with those of 1573 and 1577. It also reprints, from the unique copy in the British Museum, A Hundreth Good Pointes of Husbandrie, 1557. W. Payne and Sidney J. Herrtage edited it with an introduction, notes and a glossary, and the title page gives London, 1878. The preface says the glossary is very full because of the many dialect words and forms in Tusser's writings.
The text is in old spelling and verse: numbered rhyming stanzas with headings such as A way to haue large bréed of hogs, giving advice on keeping pigs and horses. Another section lists editions of the work from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, including 1610, 1638 and 1710, with notes on their titles and sizes. The notes also quote Lyte's Dodoens on garden basil and a record of Seville figs, dates and pomegranates bought by Queen Eleanor.
