About this book
Rev. Walter Skeat is the editor of this printing of the Book of Husbandry, and the Notes and Sidenotes he produced are in modern (1882) English. The reprinted text retains all the spelling variations and inconsistencies of the original editions, and the corrections the editor has inserted are shown in [brackets].
One section, headed “To graffe bytwene the barke and the tree”, says there is another manner of grafting than this. The directions tell the grafter to saw the stock and pare the head of it, and to take the graft and cut it in the joint to the middle. A discussion of the author’s mention of places names the counties Cornwall, Devon, Essex, Kent, Somerset, Buckinghamshire, Yorkshire, and Lancashire. A list of words explains entries such as Red wheate, a kind of wheat, and Reedwaxe, red wax, sealing-wax.
