Four Arthurian Romances

These twelfth-century verse romances by Chrétien de Troyes gave the world some of the founding stories of King Arthur’s court, including the knights Erec, Cligès, Lancelot, and Yvain. Blending courtly love, quests, and chivalric honour, they shaped the entire Arthurian tradition that followed. This English translation opens a doorway to the medieval imagination at its source.
