About this book
Fra Angelico: A Sketch is by Jennie Ellis Keysor, a short piece on the painter, 1387 to 1455. It opens with a page of tributes, among them lines from John Ruskin, Paul de St. Victor, Taine and Timothy Cole, and carries a 1900 copyright date.
Keysor begins at a Dominican monastery on the heights of Fiesole above the Arno, near Florence, picturing the monks at work in the fields and in the scriptorium, where they copy manuscripts. Other passages describe him painting the Crucifixion in tears, set Savonarola's preaching at San Marco beside Angelico's painting, and quote Vasari on a man of simple and holy ways.
