About this book
Angels in Art is a book by Clara Erskine Clement with chapters headed The Archangel Gabriel and The Archangel Raphael. The text explains that the angelic host was divided into three hierarchies, and these again into nine choirs, the first hierarchy embracing seraphim, cherubim, and thrones. The text says Dante gives preference to Dionysius as an authority.
The text says a belief in guardian angels is far more widespread than the realism of the present day is inclined to admit. The text names the ninety-first psalm and gives the words For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. The text speaks of being able to vision forth the ministry of angels beside us, and to imagine the cloud of witnesses in heaven and earth.
