Fulco de Minstreel

C. Joh. Kieviet’s famous novel “Fulco de Minstreel” takes place in the late 13th century. The main character of the story is Fulco, a knight Gijsbrecht van IJsselstein’s servant who is also referred to as “The Minstrel” because of his exquisite singing. The battle between the castle lords of Vianen and IJsselstein serves as the setting for the story. In the course of his journey, Fulco rescues his lord from the dungeon. The book places a strong emphasis on the value of independence and heavenly support.
