About this book
Ebenezer Howard's book is the second edition of "To-morrow: A Peaceful Path to Real Reform", dated London, 1902. Its title page carries lines from a poem by J. R. Lowell, "The Present Crisis". The contents begin with an introduction and a chapter called "The Town-Country Magnet", followed by chapters on the revenue of Garden City from its agricultural estate and its town estate, and on its expenditure.
One passage takes up the question of how the country could be made as attractive to a working people as the town, in wages, comfort, social life and prospects. Howard writes that there are in reality not only two alternatives, town life and country life, but a third. Elsewhere he says that no reader will confuse the experiment he advocates with absolute Communism, and that it is not a socialistic experiment.
