About this book
The account of play describes young men often playing a game similar to duck-on-the-rock and old men often playing sîjeh or lîwan in the streets around doorways. The board for sîjeh or lîwan consists of squares marked in dust or on a flat stone slab, and the markers may be small stones.
The discussion of wild flowers says that fresh booklets of pressed specimens offered for sale give an excellent idea of the variety of wild-flower life in Palestine. The description of shepherding says that a shepherd usually carries newly born animals in from the fields and very rarely misses one. A personal recollection tells of a little kid carried home in saddle-bags, which did not survive many hours without the peculiar quality of its mother's new milk.
