About this book
Charles Horton Cooley, named on the title page as instructor in sociology at the University of Michigan, published this book in September 1902. The contents open with Society and the Individual, which treats the two as aspects of one thing and calls the habit of setting them against each other a fallacy. The second chapter is Suggestion and Choice, and its summary mentions suggestion and choice in children.
In the pages sampled he writes about how a natural leader impresses others in face-to-face meeting, with Napoleon and Orlando from As You Like It as examples. Elsewhere he describes the fears and sympathies of young children, and quotes Darwin on a child who showed sympathy at six months and eleven days.
