About this book
General Scott is credited to Marcus J. Wright. The text says General Wilkinson nursed his wrath, and after the close of the war published an attack on General Scott.
The text says about three thousand men laid down their arms, with the usual proportion of field and company officers, besides five generals. A quoted report says the loss, though comparatively small in number, has been serious, and fears that Brigadier-General Shields is, if not dead, mortally wounded. The text quotes Daniel Webster, in a speech delivered in the United States Senate February 20, 1848, speaking of a report from General Scott, a man who has performed the most brilliant campaign on recent military record.
