About this book
George Sand: Some Aspects of Her Life and Writings is by Rene Doumic, translated by Alys Hallard. A note says the book is not intended as a study of George Sand but is merely a series of chapters touching on various aspects of her life and writings. The contents list chapters titled Aurore Dupin, Baronne Dudevant, A Feminist of 1832, The Romantic Escapade, The Friend of Michel, A Case of Maternal Affection, The Humanitarian Dream, 1848 and The Genius of the Writer.
The text describes a child who played amongst the hay, climbed the trees and dabbled in the water, and in winter listened to wonderful stories while the herdsmen talked together, assembled round their fire. The text says the antagonism of the two mothers increased, and that the child learnt to understand and appreciate them both, contrasts though they were. The text says Michel had brought George Sand over to republicanism, and that she had learnt that love is in any case a selfish passion.
