About this book

The Human Comedy: Introductions and Appendix is by Honoré de Balzac. The contents list an introduction and brief biography by George Saintsbury, an appendix of titles in French with English translations grouped in the various classifications, and the author's introduction. The contents name Scenes de la Vie Privee, Scenes de la Vie Province, Scenes de la Vie Parisienne, Scenes de la Vie Politique, Scenes de la Vie Militaire, Scenes de la Vie de Campagne and Etudes Philosophiques.

The introduction says Balzac was born at Tours on the 16th of May, 1799. The introduction says Balzac showed his capacity for taking pains for nearly ten years before the genius came. One line says the unknown struggle which goes on in a valley of the Indre between Mme. de Mortsauf and her passion is perhaps as great as the most famous of battles, Le Lys dans la Vallee.
