About this book
The foreword asks how Stone Mountain came to be, how old it is, and how high. The foreword asks how large the biggest carving in the world is, how it was done and who first saw Stone Mountain. The foreword says the book is dedicated to those who care enough to see and study the wonders of their country.
The text says that on March 20, 1916, Sam Venable, Mrs. Coribel Venable Kellogg and Mrs. Robert Venable Roper deeded the face of Stone Mountain and ten adjoining acres to the UDC. The deed carried the proviso that the property would be turned back to the original owners if a suitable monument was not completed in twelve years. The text says men and boys tested their muscles by rolling stones off the mountain for more than a hundred years.
