About this book
El Morro Trails is a booklet for El Morro National Monument, New Mexico, by the Southwest Parks and Monuments Association. The booklet says the trail begins directly behind the Monument headquarters and climbs gradually toward the rock. The booklet gives the hike past the inscriptions and back to the office as normally taking from 30 to 40 minutes.
The booklet says there is no spring; the pool is fed largely by rain falling in July, August, and September, and by melting snows. The booklet calls one inscription the longest and one of the most interesting on the rock, supposedly done by Governor Eulate, who says he passed by on the return from the pueblos of Zuñi on the 29th of July the year 1620. The booklet says Atsinna was occupied during the 13th and 14th centuries, and that the reason for the abandonment of this site is not definitely known.
