About this book
Counsel gathered from ordinary life becomes material for devotion in Adrien Sylvain's short reflections. The introduction compares fleeting moments of insight to gold dust collected from dry riverbeds, suggesting that useful thoughts deserve to be remembered and shared. Translated and abridged from the French by E. L. E. B., and edited by Charlotte M. Yonge, the volume offers brief passages for reading during pauses in the day's work.
Its advice stays close to everyday relationships: remember kindness, offer help, bear irritation patiently and teach others gently. Prayer gives these habits their spiritual direction. The middle passage describes prayer alone, prayer shared by friends and prayer offered in the same words by people separated by distance. Readers seeking devotional meditations will find a collection concerned with the small decisions through which trust in God, patience and care for others take practical form.
