About this book
Helps to Latin Translation at Sight is by Edmund Luce. Its contents list passages for translation, appendices and an index, and the index of authors includes Caesar, Cicero, Livy, Horace, Catullus, Juvenal, Florus and Frontinus.
The passages are given in Latin with numbered lines, followed by short notes in English that name sources, give dates and explain places and people. The contents show sections of epitaphs and inscriptions, including lines on Naevius, Ennius and Plautus, and an epilogue from Horace, Ovid and Martial. A later section gives a life of Sallust, 86 to 35 B.C., born at Amiternum in the Sabine country and tribune of the people in 52 B.C.
