About this book

Drawn from the storehouse of Sanskrit literature, this collection retells classic Hindu tales for younger readers, pairing adventure and wonder with the moral instruction long carried in India's oral and written traditions. Kings, sages, clever animals, and gods move through stories that reward patience, honesty, and courage, giving Western audiences of the early twentieth century a friendly doorway into Indian folklore and thought. Siddha Mohana Mitra supplied the source material, which Nancy Bell, writing as N. D'Anvers, shaped into flowing English prose. Gentle, memorable, and full of cultural detail, the tales still make an inviting introduction to the storytelling of ancient India. Free to download as a PDF and EPUB edition.
