About this book

Kacen Callender's engrossing children's book "Hurricane Child" is set in the US Virgin Islands. Born during a hurricane, Caroline Murphy has experienced a series of misfortunes, including bullying at school, a persistent spirit that only she can see, and her mother's unexplained disappearance.

Caroline's luck starts to improve with the arrival of Kalinda, a new student from Barbados. As their connection grows, Caroline starts looking for her mother and struggles with her love for Kalinda. The work skillfully combines themes of love, resiliency, and identity.
