About this book
Icelandic Fairy Tales includes The Legend of the King’s Three Sons, whose king and queen have sons called Osric, Edric, and Frithiof. The king adopts his orphan niece Isolde, who grows up with his sons and becomes their best-loved playfellow without any distinction from the royal children. Queen Hildegard tells the prince that her fairy godmother has given her the power to see what happens in other countries whenever she wishes.
A grandmother weaving in a tower discovers through her spells that fugitives have ceased to be fish and have resumed their own forms. The grandmother orders servants to search the forest and kill every living thing they see, and the servants search all day without seeing a creature. Ingebjörg throws a silver ball towards a giant, whose act of catching it immediately transforms him into the prince she has seen in her dreams.
