About this book

Sixteen-year-old Frank Gowan finds palace duty a poor substitute for school games and days in the country. His older companion, Andrew Forbes, coaches him through the stiff manners of the Prince's household, but their friendly teasing soon reveals a serious division. Frank respects King George and has parents serving the royal family; Andrew openly supports the Stuarts. In this historical adventure for younger readers, ordinary boyish impatience meets the dangerous politics of George the First's reign.

The later excerpt brings the boys face to face with a government informer whom Andrew recognizes beneath a disguise. Concern for their fathers turns their talk of loyalty into something personal, while Frank struggles to make sense of what he hears. Fenn builds the story through lively exchanges, sharp changes of temper, and the tension between friendship and political allegiance.
