About this book

An unexpected visit by English travellers unsettles a Welsh castle in the reign of Edward I. Griffeth goes out with his wolfhound to warn his three brothers that strangers have arrived at Dynevor. Llewelyn and Howel resent their presence, while Griffeth insists that unarmed guests deserve protection. Wendot listens more cautiously, aware that disputes within Wales have already weakened the family lands. The opening turns a homecoming from a hunt into an argument about loyalty and honour.

Evelyn Everett-Green's historical novel for young readers follows these brothers amid rival claims to land and royal authority. In the later excerpt, Edward confirms Wendot's possession of Dynevor but challenges the twins' fitness to govern their estates. Castle life, family disagreements and the demands of kingship give the adventure its shape.
