About this book

The contents of Insectivorous Plants list studies of the common sun-dew, the movements of tentacles after contact with solid bodies and the effects of heat on leaves. One experiment compares gently brushed leaves left briefly in distilled water with leaves immersed in a camphor solution, which were brushed once in the same manner.

The account of Utricularia montana says the species inhabits tropical South America and is said to be epiphytic, while judging that it also lives in earth. The description of Utricularia montana records entire leaves rather than much-divided ones, elongated and furnished with a distinct footstalk. The plant description records numerous colourless rhizomes as thin as threads, bearing minute bladders and occasionally swelling into tubers.
