About this book

The third adventure of Arcot, Morey, and Wade sends Earth's brilliant scientist-heroes far beyond the solar system to aid a friendly alien race threatened with destruction by a ruthless enemy. Campbell fills the story with the speculative physics he loved, from exotic drives to weapons that bend the laws of nature, and stages enormous battles across the galaxy. Written in the early 1930s pulp era, it is unabashed adventure that prizes ideas and scale over character, and it helped set the template for the space opera that followed. Fans of vintage science fiction will enjoy its cheerful ambition and headlong pace. This edition is free to download as a PDF and EPUB.

About the author

John W. Campbell

John W. Campbell Jr. (1910-1971) was an American science fiction writer and, more lastingly, the editor of Astounding Science Fiction, where he shaped the genre's Golden Age. His early space operas ran under his own name, while darker stories such as Who Goes There? appeared as Don A. Stuart.
